Once
upon a time, Laurie attended
a cat show and was fortunate enough to be invited to the home
of Lisa Greco to see a litter of Oriental Shorthair kittens. In
that litter Laurie saw her first Oriental Ebony Silver Spotted Tabby and
fell in love. Six months later, Barbara Levitan contacted us about
an Oriental Silver Tabby female, Purrnfun Silvia of Hobbikats, and this was the beginning of Hobbikats
Cattery.
Hobbikats Cattery, a CFA registered
cattery, was establish in 1988. We have been very fortunate to
be able to work with some of the finest breeders, and people,
in the Cat Fancy.
In 1996, we were honored to have
a cat of our breeding, GP Hobbikats Woodstock of Telecats, become
15th Best Premier in the Southern Region. He is owned and shown
by Beverly Hovermale and was our first Regional Winner.
In 1997, we were again honored
to have another Regional winner, owned and shown by Stephen and
Bridget Rigby. GP Hobbikats Chocolate Chip of Farside became
the 7th Best Premier in the North Atlantic Region.
Also in 1997, we were lucky enough
to acquire a kitten from Virginia & Frank Hokenstrom, GC Myfun
I'll Fly Away of Hobbikats. He also became a North Atlantic Regional
winner, 14th Best Kitten.
But out of it all, the best part
of breeding cats has been the friendships that we have made. It
is also very gratifying when we receive a letter or a phone call
telling us how much pleasure and love one of our kittens has given
to its new owner.
